A spokesman of the Baltimore Police Department told reporters at a news conference that the shooting appeared to be in response to a fatal shooting on Labor Day that left one person dead and others injured. One of the attackers had a shotgun while two other had handguns, authorities said.

One of the armed men emerged from an alley and two others ran down the street, stopping just short of the victims before they opened fire, he said.

Authorities have identified a man who was killed by police in suburban Baltimore Friday while officers were investigating a bank robbery. A father and his 3-year-old daughter who were nearby were struck as well, Davis said.

He said other victims were a woman and the rest were meb. Aside from the girl, the ages of the victims ranged from 26 to 39, according to police.

Eye-witnesses reported that 3 armed suspects fled the scene after the shooting. Baltimore police commissioner Ken Davis did not elaborate on how the two shootings were linked.

The shooting occurred just a block from where the city held a party earlier Saturday for an event. Nearby, detectives used flashlights to search overgrown grass in an alley near the shooting scene.
