During the meeting, at the Trump Towers in NY, the two discussed the “special relationship” and the “unbreakable bond” between their countries, Trump’s campaign said.

Haaretz reported that Kerry in the meeting said that Israelis and Palestinians are “moving in the direction of a binational state rather than a Palestinian state alongside Israel and are also headed toward war”.

In a statement, the Trump campaign said the men discussed “many topics important to both countries, ” including ‘”the special relationship between America and Israel and the unbreakable bond between the two countries” as well as Obama’s nuclear deal with Iran and the fight against ISIS.

The statement said, “Prime Minister Netanyahu thanked Mr. Trump for his friendship and support for Israel”.

“Mr. Trump recognized that Israel and its citizens have suffered far too long on the front lines of Islamic terrorism”, the Trump campaign said.

According to the campaign statement, Trump promises to recognize Jerusalem as “the undivided capital of the State of Israel”, as he has for months now.

On June 3, Paris hosted the first meeting of the world powers on Israeli-Palestinian peace process. After it became clear that there was interest in a meeting, Netanyahu’s office turned to the Clinton camp, which also expressed interest.

During the 2012 race for the White House, US officials criticised Netanyahu over his perceived support for Republican candidate Mitt Romney. “For this to happen, any initiative must be acceptable to both, and when it is acceptable to both parties, they must agree on what will be the added value”, Lavrov said at a press conference following his address to the UN General Assembly. “We are following the number of meetings to make sure that one side doesn’t get more meetings than the other”.
