In celebration of the Feast of St. Francis on October 1 and in remembrance of St. Francis of Assisi’s love for all of God’s creatures, St. Andrew’s by-the-lake Episcopal Church invites all pets and their human companions to a Blessing of the Animals at 10 a.m. October 1.

All ages are welcome to bring pets (on a lead or in a crate) for an individual prayer of blessing by the Rev. Randall Day, priest and rector of St. Mark’s, starting at 5 p.m. All pets are welcome and must be leashed or in a travel carrier. Helping provide this effort are St. Francis Church, Porter County Animal Shelter, Best Buddies Pet Pantry, Lakeshore Paws and American Greyhound Rescue. There will be a pet market place, pet and owner photos, children’s activities, agility course, petting zoo and pony rides, a pet contest will be at 3:30 p.m.
Donations accepted to support Wildlife in Need.
Lakeshore Paws, a volunteer-run, nonprofit animal rescue in Valparaiso, will have animals for adoption. Information: www.fpcokc.org. They accept monetary and item donations, see the “Donate” page on their web site. Refreshments will be served for dogs, cats and their human companions.
