Sounders win at Galaxy for 1st time since 2009

Osvaldo Alonso added an insurance tally as the Sounders improved to 11-13-5 and 38 points. Los Angeles (11-5-15) lost its first home game of the season and its first against the Sounders since 2009.

For the first goal, Morris darted past Galaxy defender Daniel Steres and finished with the outside of his right foot to put the Sounders up 2-1 in the 63rd minute. He outraced a defender down the right sideline and curled a shot with the outside of his right foot on a breakaway.

Robbie Keane scored both goals for the Galaxy, opening the scoring in the 20th minute and converting a penalty five minutes from full time after Steven Gerrard was brought down in the box. Arena inserted Landon Donovan to try to get a game-tying goal. Chad Marshall elevated to head Andreas Ivanschitz’s corner kick and it deflected off Van Damme’s head.

Jordan Morris made another mark in the Major League Soccer record books on Sunday, setting a new record for USA -born rookie players with his 11 and 12 goals of the season.

Columbus (7-11-11), which played in the 2015 MLS Cup, is ninth in the Eastern Conference, but only five points behind D.C. United for the final playoff spot.

Morris now leads all US -born players in MLS in goals scored this season.
