Jets D Trouba asks for trade, won’t go to camp
Winnipeg Jets defenseman Jacob Trouba publicly requested a trade Saturday, and will not be attending their training camp.

Didoshak explained that in the neutral zone, “the most contested area” in today’s fast-paced game, defencemen are often rushed to make a pass up the ice.
TSN’s Gary Lawless reports that many teams have already put in that call.
Not to mention, Trouba is also an excellent skater and possesses great shutdown ability.
“The situation is not about money; it is exclusively about our client having the opportunity to realize his potential as a right shot National Hockey League defenceman”, the statement from Overhardt reads.
Finding a trade partner will likely have to involve a team that has the right roster hole, with a significant opportunity on the right side. Both are signed to long-term contracts.
At this point, several teams are interested in Trouba. “I’ll be ready when the time comes”. He has proven repeatedly that he’s not scared of making a big move to manifest his vision for the club.
Starting before the 2016 trade deadline, the Vancouver Canucks were constantly part of trade rumors that included right-shot defensemen.
The Leafs give Trouba the chance to be a top pairing defender right away, and potentially through the majority of his career. But it’ll be a long list.
Chiarelli and McLellan had to know going into the World Cup tournament that Trouba might well shake free from Winnipeg, so one would expect they not only had the opportunity to scrutinize Trouba up close, but they had the motivation to cast an eagle eye. Trouba is a restricted free agent and doesn’t have a contract for the upcoming season, but the Jets – who drafted him No. 9 overall in 2012 – own his rights.
Jets general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff released a statement on the trade talks Saturday night. They could be a ideal trading partner for the Jets. On the right side, they have Adam McQuaid, Kevan Miller and Colin Miller at the top of the depth chart.
As the Boston Bruins continue to search for a talented, puck-moving defenseman, Jacob Trouba has requested a trade from the Winnipeg Jets. After them, it’s a wasteland with Eric Gelinas, Francois Beauchemin, Nikita Zadorov, Fedor Tyutin, Chris Bigras and Patrick Wiercioch all being left-handed (though Colorado didn’t always stick with playing guys on their natural side under former head coach Patrick Roy). “Our desire to get him moved has everything to do with opportunity”. But it’d be foolish to assume that the trade for Larsson has fixed all of the team’s problems on the blue line. You can read the full statement from Overhardt in the link below, but the key points are simply that Trouba wants to have a top-four role and play on the right side.
The Oilers still have plenty of assets to deal, but they’re predominantly young forwards, something the Jets aren’t short on.
Inspired by the multi-player deal that sent Tyler Seguin to the Dallas Stars, this trade could only work if the Jets either make a awful decision or get very desperate. If it did happen, the deal probably starts with Darnell Nurse becoming “former Oiler Darnell Nurse”.

It’s obvious Cheveldayoff isn’t going to trade Trouba to the next GM who calls, even though the demand has gone public. It thins out pretty quick after Erik Karlsson.
