Glorification of Burhan Wani is self-incrimination by Pak PM Sharif

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has vowed to punish those responsible for Sunday’s attack in Kashmir and has faced calls from some within India for military action against Pakistan.

The spokesperson also asked the Indian authorities to present evidence regarding Pakistan’s involvement in the attack before levelling baseless allegations.

Premier said, “India posed unacceptable preconditions to engage in dialogue”. Both India and Pakistan are significant countries in the region.

“We have seen statements from Pakistan on the situation in the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir”. Pakistan denies sending fighters into Indian-administered Kashmir.

He said that virtually every statement by other countries at the United Nations has referred to terror as main threat to peace and onus is now squarely on Pakistan to act against terror groups, who find safe havens in Pak. “In fact, it remains active and vibrant in the hearts of the Kashmiris”.

During his almost 20-minute speech on Wednesday, Sharif described the unrest in Kashmir as an “indigenous uprising” and an “intifada” (uprising) and accused India of “brutal suppression” and “gross and systematic violations of human rights”.

Sharif had glorified a self-declared terrorist (Burhan Wani) belonging to Hizbul Mujahideen.

In a strong rebuttal, India said the terrorists designated by the United Nations continued to roam Pakistan’s streets freely and operate with State support.

“Sharif repeated a Pakistani call on the United Nations and the global community to investigate atrocities it alleges have been committed by Indian forces in Kashmir”.

“We can not and will not allow terrorism to prevail”, she said.

“This year, beginning with the Pathankot airbase attack, there have been continuous attempts by armed terrorists to cross the Line of Control and International Boundary in order to carry out attacks in India”.
