It’s hard to even know where to begin in describing Palmer’s iconic career, both on and off the course.

He became the first person to win four times at the Masters.

Palmer won more than 70 tournaments throughout a career that spanned more than 50 years.

Speculations about Palmer’s health surfaced this year after he stopped hitting the ceremonial first tee shot at The Masters, which he had done every year since 2007.

After winning the US Amateur title in 1954, Palmer turned pro the following year. “He represented everything that is great about golf”.

Palmer was reported to have died on Sunday (NZT Monday), in the U.S. city of Pittsburgh. “He’s the defining figure in golf”.

As well as being one of the biggest golf stars ever, Palmer will also be remembered for his favorite drink: half iced tea and half lemonade.

He was inducted into golf’s Hall of Fame in 1974.
