Russell Brand quits social media to ‘think and learn’
Brand said his departure was in part due to the “incredible condemnation” he had received in the media.

Russell Brand says he is stopping his YouTube show The Trews and taking a break from Facebook and Twitter to spend some time “learning”.
The comedian and self-proclaimed activist said in his final episode of The Trews, a weekly video uploaded to YouTube in which he discussed politics and current events, that he needed to take some time off to think and to learn.
“I’m going to be learning because I know real change is coming and I want to be part of that“, he said in Thursday’s show.
He also reveals the reason behind his move to shun social media.
“Media behaves in a very sort of predicable and formulaic manner”, he says in his final video.
He gained controversy in July after saying that a minute’s silence held for the victims of the terrorist attack in Tunisia was a “minute of bulls***”. He claimed that British Government perpetuates a cycle of crime, saying “of the 28 countries on our lists of potential human rights abusers and nations of concern, of those we sell arms to 23”.
Last year, he used his show to campaign for the New Era housing estate in East London, where families were set to be evicted to make way for an upmarket US investor-backed development.
“I think we’ve gone as far as we can with The Trews for now“, he added.
Brand added that he has been thanked across the world for creating The Trews – which he wants to become a “more truthful, more inclusive” series.
