Bears’ Cutler doubtful, Jeffery questionable for Dallas game

Starting in Cutler’s place will be quarterback Brian Hoyer, who will be backed up by Matt Barkley as the Bears take on the Cowboys.

As a result, Chicago picked up Jones-Quartey off waivers from the Cardinals just a few days before the start of the 2015 season.

Because the Bears fell behind again, they couldn’t do much with the running game.

Now, Chicago will hope Hoyer can be similarly accurate when it faces a primetime challenge from another rookie QB: the Cowboys’ Dak Prescott. Also, Kevin White had 36 yards in four catches. Their top five skill position players in terms of snaps an production are tight end Jason Witten, wide receivers Dez Bryant, Cole Beasley and Terrance Williams and running back Ezekiel Elliott.

The Bears must play complementary football if they want to gut out a win and that starts with making a commitment to running the football. Fortunately for Hoyer, he will have star receiver Alshon Jeffery lining up out wide. He did not return.

One of the knocks on Williams’ game is his inability to gain separation from defenders.

The team doesn’t seem to be coached very well in any phase at this point, struggling with penalties and execution in all three phases of the game.

Through two games, the Bears’ special teams have provided no juice for their offense. He left in the first quarter with a head injury and is being evaluated for a concussion. This was with only about 6 minutes left, in a game where the defense hadn’t been stopping anything. Praised during the offseason for his growth by both veteran quarterback Tony Romo and the Cowboys coaching staff, Williams got a rare opportunity in the spotlight when All-Pro receiver Dez Bryant suffered a foot injury in Week One that would sideline him for almost half the season. The Eagles looked terrific Monday night with rookie quarterback Carson Wentz making his second National Football League start.

Dowell Loggains, for the second week in a row, ran a very vanilla offense, free from any creative play-calling that we saw from Adam Gase past year.

“I just try to get around the corner as fast as I can”, he said.

“I was happy with the way he played in the three carries”, Chicago offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains said. He joined the Bears in the fifth round of the 2016 NFL Draft and ran for 107 yards in Chicago’s final preseason game.
