Chinese confirmed dead in Bangkok blast

“This includes those who looked out on the streets, prepared the bomb and those at the site and… those who knew the escape route”.

Even though police say at least one foreigner may have been involved in the attack, the operation is unlikely to be linked to worldwide terrorism, Col. Winthai Suvaree, a spokesman for Thailand’s ruling military junta said Thursday.

Two other people seen on the video near the man are also considered suspects in Monday’s deadly bombing, police said late Wednesday.

Officials described the suspect as a “foreign man” Wednesday, but police said they’re not sure he is from another country, the AP reported.

Thai resident Sunee Tangsakul says: “When I came here…”

He failed to give any further details, but did refute previously expressed fears that Chinese citizens (four of whom died) had been the focus of the attack, claiming they were not the “direct targets”.

Nobody has claimed responsibility for the attack, which has no precedent in Bangkok.

The attack left at least 11 foreigners dead, with Chinese, Singaporeans, Indonesians and a family from Malaysia among the victims.

Earlier, police said they believed at least three people, including a foreign man, were involved in the attack on a famous city shrine.

The men, in red and white T-shirts, rose from a bench shortly before the main suspect, in yellow, sat down and left behind his backpack, according to BBC.

Lt Gen Prawut told reporters police would continue to scrutinise closed-circuit TV footage of the area from before the blast for clues about suspects.

The Chinese man returned home a day after the bomb.

Thailand also announced a TB1 million (RM115,000) reward offer for information leading to the arrest of the suspect, which the police sketch showed as a young man with black-rimmed glasses, a full head of dark hair and a light complexion.

“You have no idea about the trauma and how scared I was”, he said on his Facebook account, after going to the police.

Authorities are looking for two other men seen on CCTV standing in front of the prime suspect as he deposits the backpack at the site of the bomb.

The sketch of the suspect is based on the CCTV footage and a description provided by the motorcycle taxi driver who is believed to have given him a ride on Monday night.

After the blasts, the police suspected the involvement of the Thais in the bomb explosion.

The incident was the “worst ever in Thailand“, Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha has said, while vowing to hunt down those responsible.
