Snapchat Rebrands as Snap Inc. This product is named Spectacles.
GoPro became an early hit with extreme sports enthusiasts who used the mini-cameras to film their exploits, and went on to win over teens and young adults interested in sharing videos on YouTube and social networks. The glasses have a beachy vibe, come in three colors (black, teal, or coral), and take us one step closer to “The Entire History of You” episode of Black Mirror where literally all of your life is captured on camera.
The reason behind the company’s name change was that when the company first launched four years ago, Snapchat was its only product, but now that they are branching out with more products, it makes sense to change names it something else.
As for pricing and availability, Snap said the sunglasses will be produced in small quantities and are priced at US$130 (S$180). We were walking through the woods, stepping over logs, looking up at the attractive trees. It’s one thing to see images of an experience you had, but it’s another thing to have an experience of the experience. In the case of Spectacles, the company developed a new camera to allow for more immersive video – certainly an expansion beyond smartphone apps.
“Circular video plays full screen on any device, in any orientation, and captures the human perspective with a 115 degree field of view”.
The company has announced its first move into wearable tech. The same is not so with the Google Glass.
Snap CEO Evan Spiegel tells the Wall Street Journal that they made this so people can document moments without the hassle of holding a smartphone.

Carolina Milanesi, a consumer technology analyst at Creative Strategies, while commenting on the various aspects Spectacles, has said, “If you look at the kinds of glasses millennials wear, the design is very “in”. If you don’t have your phone on you, the videos will be temporarily stored on the glasses.
