GUIDE: 1st Presidential Debate, what you need to know

The Trump campaign put to rest on Sunday the prospect that he might invite Gennifer Flowers, who had an affair with Clinton’s husband, former President Bill Clinton, to attend the debate. One reason? Cuban starred in a 2004 ABC reality show called The Benefactor, a rip-off of Trump’s popular NBC show The Apprentice.

Bill Clinton acknowledged in the late 1990s that he had a sexual relationship with Flowers in the late 1970s, and in a tweet yesterday Trump appeared to threaten to bring her to the debate.

If Clinton allows herself to become rattled by the antics of her opponent, this could – in theory – give Trump the kind of debate advantage he wants. A journalist needs to represent the viewers and help make the truth known.

Conway said on Sunday that Trump’s tweet mentioning Flowers was meant as a warning to the Clinton campaign.

Powers said he’s inclined to believe that Monday night’s debate will be “significant, but not a game-changer”. “And I think that’s what you’re going to see from Donald Trump”, Priebus said.

The third is the trickiest: Holt and his colleagues Martha Raddatz, Anderson Cooper and Chris Wallace need to keep in mind that they are far more affluent than most of the people watching the debates. “It was only when money came out, when the tabloid went down there offering people money to say that they had been involved with me, that she changed her story”.

Robby Mook, Clinton’s campaign manager, on ABC’s “This Week” called on NBC debate moderator Lester Holt to correct inaccuracies made by the candidates.

“A victory for Donald Trump tomorrow night is answering the questions and showing America he’s ready to be president and commander-in-chief on day one”, she said.

“The news that the ultra-liberal, elitist, out-of-touch New York Times Editorial Board endorsed an ultra-liberal, elitist, out-of-touch candidate in Hillary Clinton has to be some of the least surprising news ever”, senior communications adviser Jason Miller said in a statement. It’s quite possible that a few sharp questions from the moderator or a stinging rebuttal from Hillary Clinton will cause Donald Trump to lose the tenuous hold he has on his own temper and rationality. “I felt awful about what was happening to them”, she said.

On Sunday, Clinton campaign aides express concern about Trump’s habit of saying things that might be untrue and voters’ general distrust of Clinton.

Republican National Committeeman J.L. Spray sees the possibility of immigration emerging as a defining issue with Trump potentially scoring political points. Although Trump’s alarmed campaign staff quickly shot this idea down, who knows what Donald Trump will actually do?

Hillary has to debate Trump while fact-checking him.

Sen. Tim Kaine of Virginia, Clinton’s vice presidential running mate, predicted during an appearance on the CBS Face the Nation that the race would remain close through election day November 8.

It comes as opinion polls show a tight race between Clinton, a former secretary of state, and Trump, six weeks before the election on November 8. “You’re the underdog until they call you the victor.’ So I think this thing’s going to be close right up to the end”.
