Rookies lead Cowboys to easy win over Bears

Bears quarterback Jay Cutler has a sprained thumb, but still might play this Sunday. Quarterback Dak Prescott spearheaded the offensive attack with 248 passing yards, 36 rushing yards and two total touchdowns, while running back Ezekiel Elliott added 140 rushing yards and 20 receiving yards. The Cowboys kept giving him the ball while trying to work the clock with a two-touchdown lead in the fourth quarter a week after he was benched because of two fumbles in a win over Washington. For the Cowboys, they have rookie Dak Prescott under center for his third National Football League start. Dallas had a 19-4 edge in first downs before halftime and finished with 447 yards, including 199 on the ground. He leads the Bears with nine receptions for 201 yards and has been the most consistent performer on an offense that will turn to Hoyer against Dallas. They dropped to 0-3 for the second time in two seasons under Coach John Fox.

Pressed into action with starter Jay Cutler’s thumb injury, Hoyer didn’t do much with the game on the line against a Dallas defensive unit that ranks in the middle of the pack in most statistical categories.

The Bears (0-3) weren’t as fortunate with Brian Hoyer at the helm. Witten stepped out at the one yard line. Hoyer also lost a fumble. Dallas finally got its first win of the season in Week 2 against the Redskins. He was back on the field before the end the first quarter after getting treatment on the sideline, but didn’t have another catch until the opening play of the fourth quarter. The journeyman backup played capably in relief, completing 9 of 12 pass attempts, but couldn’t rally a disappointing Bears team past rookie passer Carson Wentz and the Eagles. Lance Dunbar punched it in from a yard out to give the Cowboys a 17-0 lead.

The Bears responded in too-little, too-late fashion with a 75-yard touchdown drive.

Chicago got on the board for the first time with just under eight minutes to play, settling for a 34-yard field goal after a 59-yard drive.
