Emmy Awards 2016: Ratings Hit All-Time Low with 11.3 Million Viewers

At least Kit had a great night on every other front – starting with Emmys host Jimmy Kimmel declaring Jon Snow his “freebie,” and then when Kit hit on Kyle Chandler in a amusing presenter bit with Andy Samberg.

On the night the Emmys were given away, the “Game of Thrones” cast and creators equally awed as they won in the categories for best drama and best script for a drama, collecting 12 awards. Host Jimmy Kimmel even jokingly handed an Emmy to “Transparent” star Tambor at the outset of the show; he later got one for real.

“Oh, my God. Please tell me you’re seeing this too”, said a stunned Malek, who plays an emotionally troubled engineer caught up in a risky hacking conspiracy. We do think that there are certainly other examples of actors who are frequently missing in action at these awards shows; in particular, we’re talking about other UK-based names as Idris Elba and Benedict Cumberbatch, who were not in attendance despite “Luther” and “Sherlock” being nominated.

The three-hour ceremony hosted by Jimmy Kimmel was broadcast live on Walt Disney Co-owned ABC and competed against NBC’s popular “Sunday Night Football”, which generally draws the largest TV audience of the week.

One of the most hilarious moments of the evening consisted in him jumping off stage and handing an Emmy to Jeffrey Tambor, victor of Best Actor in a Comedy Series for “Transparent”. “GoT” actresses Emilia Clarke and Lena Headey also lost to “Downton Abbey’s” Maggie Smith for the Outstanding Supporting Actress award.

Damon joked with Jimmy about his show not winning an Emmy.

It was her third gong for the role, although she was not present at the ceremony. The loss “makes a lot of sense”, Damon said.

He told the audience: “Thank you to the BBC who we love above all bakery”.

“Maggie, if you want this, it will be in lost and found”, he joked.

The HBO series was nominated for 23 Emmy Awards.
