Patriots QB Jacoby Brissett injured thumb in win over Texans

The patriots could be looking for yet another quarterback – or two – after third-stringer Jacoby Brissett injured his right thumb in Thursday night’s victory over Houston.

As we’ve moved past the midway point of Tom Brady’s four-game suspension, the New England Patriots may be faced with a hard decision. Hopkins wound up catching 4 balls for 56 yards, but had to earn every one of them as Logan Ryan stuck to him all night. And now word of Brissett being injured has leaked out. Fortunately, both of their backup quarterbacks have a chance to be healthy in time for next weekend’s game against the Buffalo Bills. But Shaq cut McKinney down at the ideal time as Jacoby was getting outside of him.

Success being generally considered detestable, it’s no surprise that Patriots fans are as widely derided today as, say, those of the New York Yankees, or Manchester United.

The Patriots are the Jets’ AFC East rivals, of course, and they haven’t missed a beat without Tom Brady, suspended the first four games for his role in the “Deflategate” scandal.

Bill Belichick’s first season in New England was a forgetful one as the team went 5-11.

The star wide receiver is listed as questionable for Sunday, and Coach Todd Bowles said Marshall will likely be a game-time decision as he continues to recover from knee and foot injuries. The ground game balanced out the offense, took the pressure off Brissett and was good enough for the complementary team victory.

Brissett looked a lot like the quarterback he was at N.C. State the past two years. He was more known for his legs than his arm but he also threw a handsome touchdown pass in the 2015 Playoffs against Baltimore on a double pass.

Since Brady will be back in one more game anyway, time is running short. They came out and played a hell-of-a game. No team in the National Football League has been better in the first quarter, and it isn’t even close. He is the guy who refused to do photo shoots without his linemen. In the meantime, whether Brissett or Garoppolo will be ready October 2 is naturally the top question facing the Patriots at the game’s most important position. Miller had a 9-yard run on the first play from scrimmage and a 15 yarder in the fourth quarter when the game was long over, but for the day he tallied just 80 yards on 21 attempts (3.8 avg.). “At any moment in the game no one wavered, no one flinched, and the results proved themselves with what our team did tonight”.

“I thought it was good to have him out there”, Belichick said of Gronkowski.

To make it all better, the Patriots are atop what could easily be the worst division in the NFL.

In this Thursday, Sept. 22, 2016 photo, New England Patriots quarterback Jacoby Brissett (7) passes over Houston Texans defensive end Jadeveon Clowney (90) during the second half of an NFL football game Thursday, Sept. 22, 2016, in Foxborough, Mass.

Doeren has been exchanging texts with Brissett during the week and his message to his former quarterback has been consistent: make the most of your shot. Bill will probably get through this just fine with the janitor. “Then you just wait and see what happens”.

And you know what?

After initially faking a give to LeGarrette Blount running left, Brissett rolled to the right and was able to break into space as Shaq Mason blocked Benardrick McKinney, the linebacker to that side, who had initially started to follow Blount. And the Patriots just keep finding new ways to roll along.
