Kaepernick joins protest by high school team
And other Withrow players told WCPO they will take a knee during the anthem at this week’s game at Anderson.

A poll conducted last week and reported on Wednesday by ESPN found Kaepernick has become the most disliked player in the NFL.
Even his biological mother Heidi Russo-who gave him up for adoption-ridiculed him for his silent protest stance via Twitter. But we were reminded why Kaepernick is protesting, when Terence Crutcher, an unarmed black man, was shot with a stun gun by a male officer and then shot and killed by a female officer in Tulsa, Okla. Crutcher was outside the auto, unarmed and had his hands up before he was shot.
Rana L. Cash of The Sporting News wrote an open letter to the Carolina Panthers, criticizing the team’s apathy while violent protests engulfed Charlotte, N.C., after the shooting of Keith Lamont Scott. It just seems out of place and disrespectful to not stand.
Republican Presidential nominee Donald Trump is among those to have condemned Kaepernick, saying he “should find a country that works better for him”. And while there are a percentage of people who think it is some sort of gesture of hate–in actuality it is the furthest thing from hate.
“My choice is that I like this country, I respect our flag”.
Also of note: Kaepernick’s biological mother is white.
Despite the non-violent nature of the protest by the Oakland high school football team, there are many who say it’s inappropriate and that it’s unpatriotic – that it’s a slap in the face of Americans and vets alike. That’s what I think.
During the civil rights movement, there were sit-ins at lunch counters, college campuses and courthouses.
In a puzzling move that shocked many, Kaepernick remained seated throughout the entire song. Whether you agree or disagree with Kaepernick and his actions, just keep in mind to do so respectfully.
While the flag represented triumph when it was planted atop Mount Suribachi by the United States Marines during the Battle of Iwo Jima in 1945 – and while it expressed resilience and solidarity when it was raised by NY firefighters at ground zero in 2001, it has also whipped in the air as Jim Crow laws breezed through the South for 75 years.
Kaepernick set off a firestorm after he sat during “The Star-Spangled Banner” before a preseason game on August 26. She hasn’t stood for the pledge in 20 years. Seahawks wide receiver Doug Baldwin has been one of Kap’s biggest supporters, and the two have shared more than a few ideas on how to continue addressing the issues at hand.
There is an expectation to honor the flag. We all have inalienable rights as a citizen of this country.
Also I read a recent report about a gentleman who was teaching a class and actually threw the flag to the ground and stepped on it. I think, again, he’s shedding light on a situation that is heinous and shouldn’t happen in this country.
What they are trying to indicate by not standing during the playing of the national anthem is their conviction that, in ways critically important to people of color, our country is falling intolerably short of some of these ideals and freedoms.
Fox Sports pundit Jason Whitlock described Kaepernick’s protest as a “fad”.
There isn’t justice for all. Yet.
