NFL Power Rankings: Patriots on top, Eagles soaring after week 3

Instead, he has now started and won his first three National Football League starts, including his impressive beat down of the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday, a 34-3 win for the Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field.

Wentz has the Philadelphia Eagles off to a 3-0 start.

Head Coach Doug Pederson once again deserves a ton of credit for the convincing victory. “He’s definitely moving in the right direction”. They were helped in the first half by Bennie Logan blocking a Steelers field goal on the opening possession and Wentz finding Jordan Matthews for a 12-yard touchdown pass for the half’s lone touchdown.

On Sunday, Wentz completed nearly 75 percent of his passes for 301 yards and two touchdowns in the 34-3 blowout, and once again he didn’t turn the ball over. Not to be outdone, the big boys on the defensive end made life miserable for Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. “He instills a lot of confidence in me, and that’s huge”. Carson Wentz has completed 60% of his passes and more importantly not committed a turnover. Dropped passes. Missed receivers.

6 – Obviously the tackling was frightful today and this was the flawless offense to exploit it. Eagles running backs Wendell Smallwood, Kenjon Barner and Darren Sproles are all small backs that can catch the ball and wreak havoc in the open field.

Instead, Wendell Smallwood ran the ball 16 times for 78 yards and a touchdown and Kenjon Barner ran the ball eight times for 42 yards and a touchdown, splitting the duty nearly evenly all afternoon long. “We need to look at this film, address our concerns and be ready for Kansas City”.

The rest of the offense seemed to feed off his energy.

The Eagles have a history of problems with their offensive line. Big Ben threw for fewer yards and more interceptions than Andy Dalton in this one, which in most situations would spell trouble, but he passed for three touchdowns that gave him the edge in this match-up.

“Little bit, little bit”, Pederson says. “He’s adding youth to my game just by the way he’s acting, being in the huddle, taking command”. “I think we did a great job of getting to the quarterback”.

DAUNTING TASK: Defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz’s much-improved defense – the Eagles are No. 4 in yards allowed after finishing in the bottom five the past three seasons – has a tough assignment against Roethlisberger, All-Pro wide receiver Antonio Brown and National Football League leading rusher DeAngelo Williams. Playing from behind the entire way, Roethlisberger was forced to throw 44 passes. Steelers running back DeAngelo Williams alone had 237 yards over the first two weeks of the season.

The Eagles defense took both away against the Steelers.

PHILADELPHIA – The Eagles might be legitimate Super Bowl contenders after all.

“I know we’re feeding off that offense”, said defensive end Connor Barwin.

It’s been their mentality in every game.

The defense held Pittsburgh to 255 total yards and three points. If the Eagles can keep him contained, they have a chance, but after a quiet game last week, Brown likely won’t stay silent for a second straight week.
