New Delhi, India on Thursday hit back at Pakistan, saying the “glorification” of Hizbul commander Burhan Wani at the UN General Assembly showed Islamabad’s “attachment to terrorism”.

The two neighbours have been at odds since July 8 when a populist Kashmiri rebel leader Burhan Muzaffar Wani was killed by Indian forces.

Indian foreign ministry spokesperson Vikas Swarup tweeted about Sharif putting the young militant on an undeserved pedestal. “But India has posed unacceptable preconditions to engage in a dialogue”, he said. He said that Pakistan wants dialogue with India to resolve the Kashmir dispute, but categorically stated that dialogue is not a favor to Pakistan, but in the interest of both the countries.

Referring to Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) chief MasoodAzhar and Mumbai terror attack mastermind ZakiurRehmanLakhvi, India told the United Nations that terrorists continued to freely roam Pakistan’s streets freely and enjoyed state patronage.

He also hailed slain militant commander Burhan Wani a “young leader murdered by Indian forces”.

He said Pakistan has nothing to gain from such incidents and in fact these are part of the Indian attempt to divert attention of the world community from its repression in Occupied Kashmir. “The world also knows that Pakistan has indulged in ethnic cleansing of its own people”, he said. “This is self incrimination”, Akbar claimed.

To a question, he said there is concrete evidence of Indian sponsored terrorism and terrorist financing in Pakistan, especially in Balochistan and Karachi.

India has said that the onus is now squarely on Islamabad to act against the terror groups which find safe havens in Pakistan and support cross border terrorism.

He said Pakistan was also ready for talks to agree on a bilateral nuclear test ban treaty. “Perhaps renunciation of lies and self-restraint on threats could be a good place for Pakistan to start”, Gambhir said.

According to a statement by the Pakistan Mission to the UN, Mr Sharif handed over a dossier containing information of alleged human rights violations by India.

“It is ironic that a country, which has established itself as the global epicentre of terrorism, is preaching human rights and talks about ostensible support for self-determination”. “We hope all relevant parties can exercise restraint and avoid escalating tensions”, he said about the Sunday attack on an army camp at Uri in Kashmir in which 18 soldiers were killed and several injured.
