Two Israeli police officers stabbed as Palestinian attacks resurge
A 38-year-old policewoman was in serious condition in intensive care with a stab wound to her neck, while a policeman in his mid-40s needed treatment for moderate stab wounds.

Israeli police say a Palestinian assailant stabbed two police officers near Jerusalem’s Old City before troops shot and wounded him.
Witnesses said Israeli forces stationed near the Ibrahimi mosque (Cave of the Patriarchs) opened fire at two Palestinians killing one and injuring the other.
In Monday’s first attack, a Palestinian stabbed two police officers in annexed east Jerusalem before being shot, Israeli authorities said.
On Sunday evening, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held a meeting with the country’s top security officials to assess the security situation ahead of the upcoming High Holidays. Of them, 144 were identified by authorities as assailants while others were killed during clashes and protests.

Since last September, more than 220 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli security forces in a wave of violence.
Palestinians have accused Israel of using excessive force and say some of those killed posed no threat or had no intention of attacking anyone.
The Palestinians, as well as Israeli and worldwide rights groups, say Israel has at times used excessive force to subdue attackers.

Palestinians say the violence is rooted in decades of living under military rule and fading hopes for independence.
