LSU Fires Head Football Coach Les Miles

After a disappointing 2-2 start, the LSU Tigers chose to fire head coach Les Miles and offensive coordinator Cam Cameron on Sunday, according to multiple reports.

Now, it seems that Athletics director Joe Alleva had seen enough as the Tigers fell to a record of 2-2.

“Coach Miles has done a tremendous job here and he’s been a great ambassador for our University, which makes this even more hard”, LSU athletic director Joe Alleva said in a written statement.

It was clear from the start that if the program decided to make a change that they would look at more offensive-minded coaches, and the new report confirms that thought. Ed Orgeron will serve as interim coach.

Miles was almost shown the door at the end of the 2015 season but was given a reprieve by LSU officials, who made the decision to keep him during the regular-season finale against Texas A&M, which the Tigers won. Additionally the university also let go Cam Cameron, the Tigers’ offensive coordinator.

The school is scheduled to hold a news conference Monday afternoon.

So after 11-plus seasons of being used to him and his white hat patrolling the sideline, not seeing him there this weekend when the Tigers host Missouri just won’t feel right. Miles was in his 12th season at LSU and led the Tigers to a National Championship in 2007. Miles and the Tigers were the national runners-up in 2011 when they lost to Alabama in the title game.

The 2-2 start is the worst during Miles’ 12-year tenure with the Tigers. Cameron’s offensive schemes the past couple seasons have not done much outside of running back Leonard Fournette.

LSU (2-2), which started the season No. 5, joined Notre Dame as preseason top-10 teams to fall out of the poll. LSU started 7-0 before a three-game losing skid against Alabama (30-16), Arkansas (31-14) and MS (38-17).

Herman has gone 17-1 with an AAC championship and a win in the Peach Bowl during his short career with the Houston Cougars.

He reportedly was close to be removed last season after a three-game losing streak last November. His record in Baton Rouge is 114-34. The buyout for Miles’ contract was about $10 million, according to sources. Harris, a junior quarterback, was benched in favor of Etling in the second game of the season against Jacksonville State after starting every game in 2014. He has also coached at Georgia and Auburn as well as at the high school level. Miles makes $4.3 million per year, and Cameron is paid $1.2 million per year.

There are a lot of coaches who would like to take a crack at this job, and LSU knows that. There was an outpouring of support by LSU fans during the game.
