Cowboys Recap: Dallas not anxious about loss focusing on rookies growing

So when it was over, and his Giants had escaped with a 20-19 win, forgive McAdoo if he wasn’t quite ready to exhale.

It’s been 365 days since the Dallas Cowboys won a game at their home venue, AT&T Stadium. They held Cowboys rookie running-back Ezekiel Elliott to only 51 yards on 20 carries and the team to only 101 yards rushing.

One positive for this team was the kicking of Dan Bailey, who was ideal on his four field goal attempts and his one extra point attempt. “I’m thinking go win the game”.

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo is expected to miss six to 10 weeks with a broken bone in his back, but according to he and owner Jerry Jones, the quarterback will return “sooner rather than later”. The Cowboys were three-touchdown favorites against Central Michigan. However, assessments must be made and make them we did.

Dez didn’t catch it: Cowboys receiver Dez Bryant had an apparent 24-yard touchdown catch from Prescott overturned on review in the first half when the replay showed the ball coming loose as he landed and slid out of bounds in the end zone. They didn’t give up many big plays, the one exception being the 40 plus yard catch by Odell Beckham Jr., the same play Orlando Scandrick aggravated his hamstring on. It was his first game action since he ruptured the patellar tendon in his right knee in the third quarter of a prime time loss to the Eagles in Philadelphia on October 12, 2014. He also missed on a number of passes that were high, although a couple that Prescott didn’t miss in the preseason should have been caught, . “That doesn’t minimize a loss, it hurts, but a lot of great football in here”, said Jason Witten, Dallas tight end.

Instead, Williams juked inside and, although he picked up a few more yards, wound up running out the clock. It wasn’t a deep passing game that Prescott was playing on Sunday, with a five-yard average to his throws, another thing that helped inform Bryant’s quiet day. The red-zone issues, though, are not Prescott’s and the passing game’s alone.

The Cowboys’ rookie quarterback did not throw a touchdown pass in his National Football League debut. “We kind of let one slip through our fingers”, said Shane Vereen, who carried the ball three time for 21 yards to set up Victor Cruz’s game-winning touchdown. There are certainly questions about why they were unsuccessful in getting Dez Bryant more involved. “But make no mistake about it, he was coached to get out of bounds”. And if the Giants can get consistent play like that from Jenkins on a week-to-week basis, opposing offenses are going to struggle to get their No. 1 receivers involved.

This has been the best situation the Cowboys have been in at quarterback during an extended period wihout Romo and they can not squander it via poor red-zone showings, poor field and clock awareness (ahem, Williams) and play calls that don’t serve Prescott’s best interests.
