Chiefs thrive on turnovers in 24-3 blowout of Jets

We could have come out and executed better. They generated only ten offensive points.

It felt like those fluky turnovers last week were being given back to the Chiefs. “We’ve got to go to work and figure it out”.

Only twice previously under Reid had the Chiefs lost three fumbles: 2013 against Indianapolis and 2015 at Arrowhead vs. Denver.

PLAYER TO WATCH: RB Matt Forte. Fitzpatrick, who was 20-of-44 for 188 yards overall, also narrowly avoided being intercepted a couple of other times over the course of a game that felt light years away from his success against the Bills in Week Two.

Things could have been worse for NY. On the Jets’ kickoff late in the second quarter, he was tackled at the 16, but you could see the opening that convinced him to bring it out and try.

However, the Chiefs inexplicably got conservative at the end of the first half. The Chiefs second drive was ideal and ended with Travis Kelce leaping into the endzone. “I’m not going to go in depth on that”. On the ground, Charcandrick West rushed for 61 yards in six attempts while Spencer Ware added 57 yards in 10 carries. The KC Chiefs are led by quarterback Alex Smith and head coach Andy Reid. But what made it even more significant was the whopping eight turnovers committed by the New York Jets en route to the loss. ILB Sam Barrington (hamstring) continues to be sidelined by a hamstring injury that he suffered on September 11 in the Chiefs game against San Diego.

This is a awful decision from Fitzpatrick, but it is also an incredible play from Peters. And emerging star Quincy Enunwa was a non-factor, catching four passes on 11 targets. WR Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker also have shown impressive ability so far in 2016.

Linebacker David Harris (shoulder) was limited, while Erin Henderson (foot) did not practice – although both are listed as questionable. They will be without left guard Parker Ehinger (concussion/foot) and right guard Laurent Duvernay-Tardif (ankle sprain) will be a game-time decision. Jordan Devey and Zach Fulton are expected to start at guard.

36th regular season meeting, series is tied 17-17-1. “For me, you guys can write whatever you want about me or say whatever you want about me, but I’m going to always be out there fighting”. The Chiefs spent the entire afternoon playing from behind before prevailing in overtime.

There can be no repeat of that plot this season, or a repeat of the giveaways they provided to Houston. The Chiefs sealed the game on a 55-yard interception return for a touchdown by Derrick Johnson, which put the team up 23-3. Alex Smith was miles better than he was in Week 2, completing 25-of-33 for 237 yards and a touchdown without an interception.

Ryan Fitzpatrick threw for 370 yards without a pick, running back Matt Forte continued his torrid start, and the Jets (1-1) finished with almost 500 yards of total offense last week.

The noise won’t exactly limit what the Jets are trying to do on offense, but it will certainly make it more hard. And if the Jets’ secondary ever gets its act together, they still have the makings of an outstanding defense.

In two games, the Chiefs have been outscored 34-6 in the first half. They could get away with that in Buffalo against an bad Bills team.
