Hillary Clinton to get first question in presidential debate

“Last Week Tonight” host John Oliver put the current presidential election in perspective for HBO viewers Sunday by pointing out how unprecedented the stories surrounding the two candidates truly are.

Here’s a look at who the candidates invited to sit in the audience at tonight’s debate. Some commentators forecast Super Bowl-sized viewership of about 100 million. The one-on-one debate with Clinton will require Trump to speak for longer periods of time and face attacks from a single opponent.

The race for the White House has so far had little discernible effect on the sentiment but that may change if Monday’s encounter leaves a decisive victor.

The CBOE Market Volatility index, also known as Wall Street’s “fear gauge”, rose 16.84 percent, clocking its biggest percentage gain in two weeks.

Former President Bill Clinton planned to travel to the debate with his wife, but it was unclear whether he planned to watch the event from inside the debate hall.

Asked whether Trump is healthy enough to be president, 73 percent said yes and 18 percent said no.

“Hilary’s strength has always been when she’s in these hearings”, the California Republican said. “He doesn’t have to be brilliant, he just can’t be too bombastic”.

Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump are still hours away from squaring off in the first debate of the 2016 race, but the pre-debate spin between each campaign is already well underway.

Snapchat users now have the option to take selfies and photos with a picture frame design that says “Debate Day: Donald J. Trump vs”. More than half, 61 percent, were hoping for a civil debate and were not interested in the bitterness shown on the campaign trail. A higher turnout would likely benefit Clinton, while the opposite would benefit Trump, according to Reuters/Ipsos polling, whose latest estimate is for a moderate turnout. Trump now leads Clinton in Florida, Nevada, North Carolina and OH – states where the Democrat led a month ago.

Earnest said the only deviation from business as usual is that the TV will be tuned to the debate instead of to Monday Night Football. While Clinton holds a huge advantage over Trump among blacks (83 points, according to a recent New York Times survey), that doesn’t predict turnout, which could be lower than it was in 2008 and 2012.

“You will get his view of how best to defeat the enemy – without telling ISIS specifically what it’s going to be”, Conway said.

“When the spotlights are at the brightest and the pressure is the most intense, that’s when she brings her A-plus game”, her running mate Tim Kaine has said.

The 90-minute debate will begin at 9pm local time at Hofstra University on NY state’s Long Island. Clinton also needs to excite base voters by showing she can land some punches.

At a Lakeland rally, Kaine read a note from Phillips that said, “I’ve been waiting my entire voting life for candidates like you and Secretary Clinton”.
