Tatar scores OT winner as Europe beats Sweden
The best-of-three final will be played Tuesday, Thursday and, if necessary, Saturday at the Air Canada Centre.

But that shouldn’t diminish its accomplishment of merely getting to the final.
Detroit Red Wings forward Tomas Tatar was the hero of the game, scoring once in regulation before providing the overtime goal that put Europe through to the final.
If you haven’t been paying close attention, what is “Team Europe”? They have now beaten the United States, Czech Republic and Sweden in the tournament.
By all accounts, it was a marvellous sales job – a huge credit to Krueger’s leadership abilities, which shouldn’t come as a surprise given how in-demand he has been as a keynote speaker for years in Europe.
Late in the period, Team Europe managed the equalizer. His.946 save percentage through four games is among the best in the tournament, while his 37 save effort in the semifinal on Sunday was probably his best one so far (and that includes his opening game shutout against the United States).
Krueger understands their underdog nature, with his head-coaching experience in the National Hockey League limited to 48 games with Edmonton in 2012-13.
As such, the Team Canada GM is taking nothing for granted.
“They’re a great story, and shame on us if we don’t take them serious for what they’ve done to this point”, Armstrong said. The toughest task lays ahead, but what a tournament it’s been for Europe.
Marian Gaborik also scored for Europe, while Nicklas Backstrom had a first-period goal for Sweden. I switched the t.v. channel, thinking Canada was finished. “I think we played really good the rest of the pretournament period and we carried that into the tournament”.
He showed how much of an impact a hot goalie can make on a team a short series. Most of those players rarely get to the final of a big, worldwide tournament, because their countries rarely advance to them.
Team Europe went 20minutes without recording even one hit, perhaps a first in top-level hockey since that stat has been recorded. “Every single time I put on this jersey I have confidence that we’re going to win the game”. In the 3 though after a closely contested game goals were scored by Brad Marchand, Corey Perry and John Tavares. They’ve got a good-looking team. With superstar Sidney Crosby, who has a World Cup-best seven points, it is hard to envision any team beating them.
“Boy, that North America-Sweden game sure could have used a couple of fights”. “We will battle together for a win”‘.
Team Canada has looked unbeatable while outscoring opponents, 19-6, in its six games.
Canada’s primary edge is in its depth, which allows Babcock to play Joe Thornton on the fourth line and roll out Stanley Cup winners Sidney Crosby, Jonathan Toews, and Ryan Getzlaf as his first three centers.
Marchand gave Canada some breathing room 76 seconds into the third period when he took a pass from Crosby and beat Bobrovsky on the glove side for his second goal of the game.
But credit Team Europe for seizing the moment.
Canada, which has won 14 consecutive games in worldwide competitions, was a popular choice to win the tournament before it began, and facing a team many expected to be dissolved and forgotten after the round-robin portion of the World Cup isn’t going to change that.
There is still some question as to who Canada will be playing in the final.
Norwegian forward Mats Zuccarello of the New York Rangers said Monday he had been to one quarterfinal of the World Championships and never anything deeper in worldwide play.
For most of these players from peripheral hockey countries, just making it to a quarter-final round was a big feat in world events. They’re forever fighting relegation in world tournaments.

“He just reads the game and executes at such a high level and so quickly that you do need to react a little differently”, Marchand said.
