Gary Johnson Can’t Name a Single Foreign Leader

First it was Bernie Sanders.

The Detroit News is endorsing libertarian candidate Gary Johnson. It’s reacting. It is reacting to the ugliness that is part of the Trump campaign, the xenophobia, the not-so-coded racism, the nativist chest-beating of his supporters. MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” panelist Mike Barnicle asked the candidate during an in-studio interview on September 8.

Still, these are national candidates for president; they should know these things. In terms of countries that have a large role in the American psyche (and are thus probably the only places Gary Johnson has bothered to give a minute’s thought to), neither Cuba nor Israel is blessed with inspiring leadership.

Johnson has argued that if he were included in the debates, he could have more impact. What I found instead, was a heartwarming campaign commercial a description of Johnson’s achievements as the Governor of New Mexico, and a short excerpt on how Johnson was such an avid skier.

“Fox, he was terrific”, Johnson said following Weld’s lead.

Matthews pressed Johnson, a former New Mexico governor: “But I’m giving you the whole world – anybody in the world you like?” I still hold out hope, however faint, that the Commission on Presidential Debates will bend the rules and let him (and Green Party candidate Jill Stein) debate. Trump had 27 percent in the poll. “I think there’s enough Republicans that are just going to do what I’m doing, which is to say say he’s risky”. Clinton campaigned earlier in Iowa, where early voting begins today.

Personally, I am exhausted of the media only focusing on the third-party candidates’ flaws.

“Go ahead, you’ve got to do this”.

When recently asked to name a foreign leader he respects, Gary Johnson was speechless.

Earlier this month, Johnson sparked criticism after appearing to not know what Aleppo was when he was asked in a recent interview what he would do about the Syrian city at the heart of the refugee crisis. It will be next to prominent candidates from the two main political parties, Democrat Hillary Clinton and Republican Donald Trump. But Stein isn’t the only third-party challenger to Trump and Clinton. Now he’s shifted to Johnson.

For a guy who often forgets people’s names in social situations – including colleagues’ I’ve worked with for decades – this could be one of the most hypocritical columns I’ve ever written. “I want this election to be about something, not just against somebody”, she said.

“I find the choices of both major parties so depressing”, said Hoffman.

“Liberal groups are passing around embarrassing videos of Johnson and running ads against him warning about his positions on issues like climate change that are important to young voters and independents”, the Hill continued. “I’m in a swing state”, she.

I can hear the Libertarians now: “Trump has many of those same problems – and others“.

Stay on topic – This helps keep the thread focused on the discussion at hand.

“We abandon that long and estimable tradition this year for one reason: Donald J. Trump”, the editorial board wrote.
