Salman today said artistes from Pakistan were not terrorists and art and terrorism should not be mixed.

Salman’s comments started trending on Twitter with his fans supporting the actor while other slamming him and accusing him of being against India. “Are artistes terrorists?” Salman asked at a press conference here.

Nadeem Mandviwalla, a well-known film exhibitor, distributor and owner of the Atrium cinemas in Lahore and Karachi, said the boycott would be unanimous until the situation improved.

Welcoming his stand, Azmi said, “Our fight is against Pakistan and we are proud of our soldiers for going into Pakistan-occupied territory and killing the terrorists”. And the bullets that hit them aren’t “filmi” bullets. Naturally, voice against these artists are getting stronger with political parties asking them to go back otherwise they will have to face dire consequences.

“I say “no an artiste should be kept out of this, how can you involve the artiste” but if you look at the larger picture, mothers have lost their children, sisters have lost their brothers”.

Tensions between India and Pakistan have escalated since the September 18 terror strike on an army camp in Uri, Jammu and Kashmir. “But after Uri attacks, it seems (like) proper action because they were terrorists”.

Movies that could be affected include Karan Johar’s “Ae Dil Hai Mushkil”, due a Diwali holiday frame release in October. A similar demand was made concerning Mahira Khan’s removal from Raees. Who gives them the visa? “It was only when they refused that they were asked to leave”. But the government has to decide these things. “Are the soldiers our servants?”

Salman siding with Pakistani artistes, however, has received mixed reactions from the people. What difference does that make? But, keeping in mind the present scenario, it is better if we maintain distance (from Pakistani artistes).
