Clinton’s ‘Shrewd’ Longtime Aide Playing Trump in Mock Debates
More also say their unfavourable opinion of Trump is a strong one than say the same of Clinton, 50 per cent to 44 per cent. Answer the pollster calls to support Gary Johnson’s inclusion in the second debate. Trump responded Saturday with a threat to bring Gennifer Flowers, with whom Bill Clinton admitted to having a sexual relationship decades ago, to the event.

Trump and Clinton meet in the first of three debates Monday night at Hofstra University in suburban NY. Like the other debates to come, Monday’s debate will run for 90 minutes and will air from 9pm to 10:30pm ET (8pm-9:30pm CT, 7pm-8:30pm MT, 6pm-7:30pm PT). The moderator is Lester Holt of NBC, who will divide the debate into six 15 minute segments. Although neither of the main candidates in this year’s election wants for national exposure, the primary debates have tended to favour the underdog and those who claim to be outsiders.
History shows that a single bad debate performance can alter the trajectory of a US presidential race.
What Are the Debate Rules?
Facebook is livestreaming the presidential debates. This debate will be no different. You literally can’t miss the debate if you turn on your TV in the U.S. on Monday night.
Days of coded warnings are also used to put moderators on notice that their questions, cross examinations and comments will be parsed mercilessly for bias and that they will become the story if they don’t play ball.
Clinton will be ready to exploit those moments to paint Trump as unprepared for the Oval Office. The public knows the two presidential candidates unusually well, so if they suddenly seem to be undergoing personality shifts, they’ll stumble. The goal is to prod the media to begin “fact checking” Trump on the issues before the debate, as well as in real-time.
As has been demonstrated before, Donald Trump’s grasp of policy issues – from economics and worldwide relations to military matters – is extraordinarily limited.
Trump has eschewed traditional debate preparations, but has held midflight policy discussions with a rotating cast of advisers.
Planted articles in major media outlets accompanied this effort, with Newsweek magazine publishing a report on the Trump Organization’s business dealings in Russian Federation, arguing that Trump would have extensive conflicts of interest should he become president.
“For all his lack of substance, Trump’s showmanship, as ex-reality TV star, makes him a formidable debate foe”. Trump backed off, saying Fiorina’s “got a lovely face”.
Presidential debate topics often cover a wide range of issues, from economic policy to nuclear weapons.
It’s part of Clinton’s exhaustive debate prep this cycle; her campaign has been grappling with how best to tackle Trump without playing into Clinton’s image problems.
Within these broader topics, nearly anything could be discussed.
Both Trump and Clinton could encounter questions about their respective foundations.
Trump declared in July that he has “zero investments in Russia”, but this wording has been turned against him by the Clinton campaign and its supporters, who have suggested repeatedly that the investment flow is in the other direction, making Trump dependent on wealthy Russian investors who are themselves closely tied to the Kremlin.
There has been an ongoing Trump Foundation investigation for months now.
Cruz was facing intensifying political pressure to back his party’s presidential nominee after refusing to do so at the Republican National Convention this summer. Palmieri said that letting false statements go unquestioned would give Trump an “unfair advantage”.
Debates are a staple of presidential campaigns, but they seldom have a big influence on the outcome of the election.
The strategy is even more overt in the other two ads, which show people watching Trump on television.

The plan represents a dramatic expansion for the billionaire businessman, who has repeatedly bragged in recent weeks about how much less he’s spent than Democratic rival Hillary Clinton. Mrs. Clinton has concluded that catching Mr. Trump in a lie during the debate is not enough to beat him: She needs the huge television audience to see him as temperamentally unfit for the presidency, and that she has the power to unhinge him.
