“The Notorious” Conor McGregor has been announced as the main event for UFC 205 in a clash with Eddie Alvarez in NY. McGregor is also the current featherweight champion, and according to UFC, he’ll be able to keep that belt regardless. In addition to McGregor vs Alvarez Tyron Woodley will defend his welterweight title against Stephen Thompson and UFC women’s strawweight champ Joanna Jedrzejcyzk will defend her belt against Karolina Kowalkiewicz.

Now that he has bagged a 1-1 result against Diaz, McGregor is turning his attention towards the UFC lightweight title once again. He knows without a shadow of a doubt that a fight against Alvarez would surely change Alvarez’s life financially for the better. McGregor still hasn’t ever defended his 145 title. He won the second fight via majority decision at UFC 202 in August. White has apparently changed his mind. I would like a gimme fight.

This announcement has put the entire featherweight division on hold to get a title shot, especially Interim Champ Jose Aldo, who was looking forward to a title unification bout. This has caused plenty of controversy with fighters and fans alike who have called for McGregor to defend his title. “I love NY”.

The two pay-per-views are among the most bought events in the history of the promotion. Anything less will be a failure. Was McGregor vs. Alvarez the fight to make, or should they have chose another option? The Brazilian, however, pulled out of the bout and was replaced by Nate Diaz-resulting in two classic bouts with the Irishman. If he wins, he will join Randy Couture and B.J. Penn as the only two-division champions in UFC history. That fight was rumored to headline UFC 206 in Toronto.
