Bill Clinton on Obamacare: ‘I strongly supported that bill’

The team pores over turnout patterns in states where advance voting is already underway, projects how many votes Clinton and Republican Donald Trump have already received, and updates crucial targeting lists of the voters she still needs. In an added dose of unpredictability, the format allows the candidates to move around the stage, putting them in unusually close proximity.

The second presidential debate will be on Sunday, Oct. 9 at Washington University in St. Louis. And based on an average of the polls, Clinton is just about a percentage point ahead of Trump there – well within the margin of error.

This week a man sensationally claimed he is Clinton’s son and started a Facebook campaign in a bid to urge the statesman to recognise him. Trump, he said, impossibly pledges to recreate a bygone manufacturing-and-coal economy, while Hillary Clinton wants new investments in infrastructure, technology and new energy sources. Still, Trump adviser Peter Navarro said he believes his candidate will be energized by engaging with voters.

“Many battleground states are already voting so every day is Election Day”, said Matt Dover, Clinton’s voter analytics director.

Seeking to raise the bar for the businessman, Clinton advisers said they do expect Trump to be more measured than in the last debate.

Before attempting to reframe his life story as one of resilience and overcoming obstacles, Trump’s campaign seemed at the verge of unraveling this week, once again sending GOP lawmakers slinking away from their flailing nominee, as they try to contain the collateral damage to vulnerable House and Senate candidates.

Clinton created fodder for Republican attacks on Monday when he criticized the law for leaving out small business owners and workers who make too much to qualify for government subsidies for healthcare. But if Trump were to win all of them, he’d still be four electoral votes short of a majority. “It reveals who you are”, Obama said. From the beginning, the Clinton campaign’s approach to health care has been “Obamacare is good; let’s make it better”.
