Pakistan army resorts to mortar shelling in Poonch

Mandhole: Pakistani military officials point to an Indian army post high on a forested ridge along the Line of Control dividing Kashmir, insisting any incursions are impossible, after skirmishes ignited risky tensions between the two countries.

The troops guarding the borderline also retaliated the shelling effectively and heavy exchange of fire was going on when last reports came in.

India’s assertion that it had conducted a cross-border raid was the first in decades, and raised global fears that its campaign to isolate Pakistan diplomatically and punish it militarily could lead to an armed escalation.

The leaders were briefed on the situation on the LoC by senior members of the Cabinet and Sharif, days after India conducted surgical strikes on terror launch pads in Pakistan- occupied Kashmir in retaliation to the Uri terror attack and repeated ceasefire violations by Pakistan.

Kashmir, a Muslim-majority region, has been disputed territory between India and Pakistan for the past 70 years.

In Islamabad, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif met with the leaders of all Pakistani political parties to discuss the ongoing clashes.

Militants also attacked another army base in Baramullah, Kashmir, late on Sunday night.

Despite assurances from Home Minister that all measures were being taken to bring him home, Chavan’s family has plunged into a state of shock following news of his reported capture. There have been 10 violations of the agreement since September 18, when 19 Indian soldiers were killed in an attack on an army base.

The move followed the deadly attack on one of India’s army bases in Kashmir that New Delhi blamed on Pakistan-based militants, triggering a public outcry and demands for military action.

He said he was not aware whether the surgical strike was true or fake, however he felt as if it was fake, unless the Indian government gave him a proof.
