Ezekiel Elliott has run roughshod over the National Football League to begin his rookie season, but the fourth overall pick of the 2016 draft will face his sternest test to date on Sunday as his Dallas Cowboys visit the Green Bay Packers and their top-ranked run defense.
Before diving headlong into the matchups, let’s jump over to the Lambeau Field lockeroom and hear thoughts from the players as they prepare to meet the Cowboys for the 27th time in the Regular Season with Green Bay leading the series 14-12. That has always been the target date for veteran quarterback Tony Romo’s return from a preseason back injury.
Aaron Rodgers has gotten the Packers offense somewhat back on track recently but is still struggling to be a consistent unit.
Rodgers didn’t seem anxious, either, joking on Wednesday that maybe he shouldn’t “throw it away as much” and take more sacks to boost his completion rate.
There are seven games that will have a 1 p.m. kickoff and San Diego at Denver is the only other late-afternoon kickoff that day. It seemed like every time we shot ourselves in the foot something bad followed up.
“I’m not anxious about that at all”.
“I missed 40 meetings!?” Those guys shouldn’t be anxious about me, either. “We’ve got to make the most of the opportunities on 50-50 balls and the balls we should catch and complete”. “All of those give us more ability to look at this thing and measure it as we go”. He came back after getting hurt against Chicago and scored a touchdown, but it’s been a cautious approach since the injury was revealed. “We’re clicking”, Perry said after practice Wednesday. “It’s no need to rush things”.
You could argue that Prescott has only been a game manager, but the Cowboys have that luxury, thanks to the punishing running tandem of rookie Ezekiel Elliott and veteran Alfred Morris.
It’s also possible the Packers could turn to the defensive side of the ball by cutting players like defensive linemen Brian Price and/or Christian Ringo.
Jones said he expects Scandrick to be ready to go after the bye week. Elliott leads the league in rushing, while Prescott has come in and done everything asked of him in the wake of the Tony Romo injury.
Today, I’m going to highlight two players on offense-a halfback and a tight end that can stretch the seam.

Injuries cloud the picture for Sunday, but the early indications suggest Lacy could play through his ankle injury. The Packers prevailed 28-7 at Lambeau last December, 11 months after they hung on for a 26-21 win over the Cowboys there in the divisional round of the playoffs. “Ed-die” after the big back lowered his shoulder to power past defenders. The Packers have beaten Dallas quarterbacked by Jon Kitna in 2010, Matt Cassell previous year and this week, they’ll see rookie Dak Prescott. Favre, who was inducted in August, will also be presented with his Hall of Fame ring.
