North Carolina Governor Pledges Aid to Flooded Historic Town

Authorities made fresh appeals Wednesday for people in eastern North Carolina to leave low-lying areas as rivers swollen with rainwater caused flooding days after Hurricane Matthew passed.
Almost 3,400 people are in shelters throughout the state, McCrory said. The total death toll is expected to rise when water recedes from flooded roads.
Power has been restored to nearly 90 percent of the SC customers who were left in the dark when Hurricane Matthew hit the state last weekend. For people stuck in shelters, McCrory said the state is working with Walmart to get long-term prescriptions to people who need their medicine. McCrory flew over the town on Thursday and said some sections were 10 to 20 feet under water.
In addition to the 15 storm-related deaths in North Carolina, there were five in Florida and three each in Georgia and SC.
