“We have agreed to work on an annual military industrial conference that will allow stakeholders on both sides to institute and push collaboration”, said PM Modi, who described Russian Federation as an “old friend of India”. China, Pakistan’s all weather friend, has so far refused to budge on any declarations against Pakistan, and refused to point a finger at Islamabad for the Uri attacks, irrespective of pressure or evidence to prove India’s case.

Modi said the one-on-one conversation with Putin, held over roughly two hours, would “lay the foundation for deeper defense and economic ties in years ahead”.

India and China have the responsibility to join hands and turn the 21st century into an Asian century, said the prime minister.

On Saturday, India and Russia are expected to sign a multi-billion dollar deal for the delivery of a Russian-made anti-missile air defense system that can track around 300 targets and shoot down up to three dozen incoming missiles simultaneously, providing a security cover that stretches several hundred kilometers (miles).

Reading out a statement to the media in the presence of Putin, the Prime Minister appreciated Russia’s understanding and support of India’s actions to fight cross-border terrorism, an oblique reference to India’s surgical strike across the LoC targeting terror launch pads.

“India’s broad concerns in the current state have been conveyed to China”. India has been hopeful of a special meeting of the NSG members in November, where its application will be taken forward. “There is close coordination between India and China on this issue, and that particular dialogue will continue”, the spokesperson said, according to ANI.

Following India’s diplomatic war, Islamabad denied an imminent global isolation and said its stand vis-a-vis Kashmir was backed by China and Russian Federation. PM Modi said that Indian companies have invested $5.5 billion in Russia’s oil and gas sector, as part of earlier commitment.

Mr. Modi and Mr. Xi also discussed India’s hopes for membership of the Nuclear Suppliers Group, and although officials didn’t report any major shift in China’s opposition, they described as “hopeful” the process set into motion of meetings between the two nuclear negotiators of the countries.
