In another striking moment, Trump denied that the Russian government has been meddling in this election, refusing to accept the judgment of the country’s intelligence community.
The Republican presidential nominee, 70, who has vehemently claimed the election is “rigged”, dodged a question from moderator Chris Wallace on Wednesday, October 19, in Las Vegas, by responding, “I’ll tell you at the time”. “What I’m saying is that I will tell you at the time”, said Trump.
Three days later, the justices voted 5-4 to overturn the Florida Supreme Court’s ruling that had ordered the recount – in effective giving Bush the presidency by 537 Florida votes.
US elections are run by local elected officials – Republicans, in numerous most competitive states.
Donald Trump said he would accept the result of the 2016 election – but only if he wins.
Even a blowout win doesn’t guarantee peace if Trump keeps instigating his most hardline supporters, however.
She added that Mr Trump had claimed to be the victim of rigging several times in the past, including during the Republican primaries and even when his television show The Apprentice did not win an Emmy award.
“I am a sports fanatic, and I don’t give up until the whistle blows”, said Kaylor Inskeep, of Baltimore, Ohio. It’s the American way.
In financial markets Mexico’s peso currency, seen as a measure of Trump’s prospects, rose to its highest level in six weeks at the end of the debate, suggesting growing investor confidence of a Clinton victory.
Polls suggest Mrs Clinton is ahead nationally and in key battleground states. Trump denied those allegations.
Mr Trump later said he would reorganise the way the government handles trade policy, creating an American Desk inside the Department of Commerce. It was unclear from his remarks how that office would differ from the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative. “In our mind, the United States has the best democracy in the world”, said Tirana, who immigrated to Canada about 15 years ago. “If you become president, this country is going to be in some mess, believe me”. At one point, as she made a jab about his taxes while talking about the Social Security Trust Fund, he proclaimed: “Such a nasty woman”. “These were paid people by the Clinton campaign and it just came out”, he alleged.
The exchange was among many contentious moments at Wednesday’s debate, which covered several issues including the national debt that have gotten little attention in the race so far – but flared with arguments between the candidates over WikiLeaks, over Russian Federation, over the Clinton Foundation and over women’s allegations of groping against Trump. A poll just before the debate found that Clinton led Trump by 2 per cent.
“Hillary Clinton knows what needs to be done and she’s going to make it happen”, Murphy said. “I think there’s more and more evidence that implicates Russia”, Pence told NBC’s Meet the Press earlier this month.
“She used these questions, studied the questions, got the ideal answer for the questions and never said that she did something that was totally wrong and inappropriate”, Mr Trump said of Mrs Clinton.
The president, who already voted early in IL, urged early voting in the Sunshine State where a 2013 report found long lines discouraged some 200,000 people from casting ballots.”When you vote early, there are no lines”, he said.
After the debate, Mr Trump’s campaign manager Kellyanne Conway insisted he had meant he would not concede until the “results are actually known”. Trump at first declined to do so, saying he doubted the reports by US intelligence agencies.
