Nintendo has announced the “Switch” console. This marks a huge shift in the strategy of the Japanese company, which has had separate systems for handheld and home game devices, for instance- the NES and Game Boy, the Game Cube and Game Boy Advance.

Nintendo is still hesitant to commit to a one-platform future, despite it seeming like that’s exactly what Switch is – the trailer, for example, shows someone playing Skyrim on their television and then continuing to play it on an airplane with its detachable controllers. Speaking to Eurogamer, a Nintendo spokesperson warned that games in the Nintendo Switch trailer might not be representative of the final product.
However if you were hoping that you would be able to play your special 3D titles on a 50 inch screen you may have to control your dreams for now. Until Nintendo can form good will with 3rd party devs, we may be reporting more of these stories, in the future.

The Switch’s processor carries K1 development kits which are already utilized in other gadgets such as Google Pixel Tablet and Shield Android TV. From Software, the developers of Dark Souls and Bloodborne, is also a confirmed partner for Nintendo Switch, but Bloodborne might still be a Playstation exclusive. One screen is shared by two players, with each using an individual Joy-Con. While everyone saw this coming because of the leaked patents, we finally know what it looks like now and the initial reception has been a bit lukewarm. The game is the last 2D platformer in the series during the Genesis era just before it switched to 3D with Sonic 3D Blast.
Nintendo’s next gaming system isn’t a home console or a portable machine-it’s both.

In addition to amiibo support, IGN also discovered that the Nintendo Switch Dock is not the main console unit of the Nintendo Switch. Considering the specs of the device it’s clear that it’s probably not going to get many games that the PS4 and Xbox One is going to get. The console, that had been referred to as the NX up until the announcement, is making a March 2017 and will see more details release in the future.
