Cardinal Dolan not needed for Trump/Clinton intercession

Clinton led Trump 44 percent to 40 percent, according to the October 14-20 Reuters/Ipsos poll, a 4-point lead. That represents a closer margin than last week, when she led 44% to 37%.

Meanwhile, New York’s cardinal Timothy Dolan said there were “touching moments” between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton at a charity dinner that was otherwise marked by barbed remarks by the presidential candidates.

Throughout the last week, Trump has repeatedly argued that the political system is “rigged”. “John Podesta, Hillary Clinton’s campaign chairman, was quoted in WikiLeaks as saying, illegal immigrants could vote as long as they have their drivers license”, Trump said.

The Democratic nominee took a jab at Trump’s perceived closeness with Russian President Putin when she brought up the 70-year-old reality TV star’s concerns during the election campaign over her health.

Vice presidential candidate Tim Kaine “unequivocally” denied that the Clinton campaign had anything to do with women coming forward, telling ABC’s Martha Raddatz that the Republican nominee invited women to speak out when he denied assaulting them during the second presidential debate. But Christina Reynolds, a Clinton spokeswoman, called Trump’s speech – in which he also threatened to sue women who have accused him of sexual impropriety – “full of conspiracy theories”.

An average of national opinion polls by RealClearPolitics shows Clinton 6.2 percentage points ahead at 48.1 percent support to Trump’s 41.9 percent. Trump’s refusal during Wednesday’s debate to commit to accepting the election outcome became the latest flashpoint in an unusually acrimonious race. “He can go off on tangents, he can go to Gettysburg and say he is gonna sue women you have made accusations against him”, she said.

– Trump: “Some people think this would be tough for me but the truth is I’m actually a very modest person, very modest”.

His biggest laughs came as he talked about Michelle Obama getting rave reviews for a recent speech.

“I will tell you at the time, I will keep you in suspense”, Trump said.

The candidates did not greet each other or make eye contact when they entered and took their seats for the event at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel, though they did shake hands at the conclusion of the roast.

“Donald really is as healthy as a horse, you know the one Vladimir Putin rides around on”, a reference to a famous picture of a bare-chested Putin riding his horse. She said that America knows “the difference between leadership and dictatorship”.

“I said, ‘We can’t say that [about Ms Clinton]”.

“People look at the Statue of Liberty, and they see a proud history of a nation of immigrants-a beacon of hope for people around the world”, Clinton said.
