The Huawei Fit is an accurate and not too expensive fitness wearable

That flexibility, coupled with its smartwatch-like design, suggests the Chinese company have their sights set on users outside of the core fitness market.

“Allowing such great battery life is the Fit’s 1” Memory LCD display, which also has an ambient light sensor for night time viewing. You flick your wrist and the light comes on, flick it again and it switches to the next screen. It can pull notifications from your smartphone and tell you things such as the time, steps you’ve taken, and of course your heart rate. The usable screen is only 26.3mm. For us, this was the ideal opportunity to swap in the Mode bands we use on the Huawei Watch. It’s a touchscreen too; in fact, there are no buttons at all on the Fit, with everything controlled via taps and swipes.

Our tipster said the Huawei Fit isn’t for sale yet, but that it’s already in stock ahead of its release on November 4. The goal is to add swim tracking capability to the Fit by 2017, but this feature is not yet live.

I like that wearing the Huawei Fit feels like wearing nothing at all. It’s gorgeous looks and flexible functionality is already solid proof that a fitness-tracker and smartwatch does not have to be too expensive to serve its basic goal.

The Huawei Fit’s body is molded from a single aluminum component, in two finishes: Moonlight Silver and Titanium Grey. The straps are 18mm wide and can be swapped out as needed.

Last year’s Android Wear-powered Huawei Watch didn’t offer much in the way of fitness smarts, but it acts as the ideal segue to the Huawei Fit, marking the company’s first full step into the fitness tracker space. The Wear app on your iPhone or Android device can supply Global Positioning System coordinates to the accessory, too, if you have linked it with the watch via Bluetooth. Wang didn’t specify if Apple Health will be supported.

When it is connected to the app you can deep dive into the data acquired from your exercises and sleep, customize alarms and heart rate warnings, and tweak the training plan-which is created to train you for anything from a 5k to a marathon. You can even monitor your heart rate all day and see a detailed overview over the course of four hours.

From a distance, Huawei Fit looks nice enough – if not a little plain – but our unit has a small scratch or air bubble underneath the glass near the bezel. Like other fitness trackers, Huawei’s uses photoplethysmography to track your heart rate. However, what makes Huawei Fit different from other fitness trackers is its ability to continuously monitor heart rate during workouts. The Huawei Fit has a few potential advantages, including an always-on display and a unique training program in its accompanying app.

During exercise and training modes, five heart rate zones are displayed on the watch in real time.

Beyond fitness tracking, the Fit also supports alerts for incoming calls and messages.

Unlike sports watches, like those from Garmin or TomTom, users will interact with Fit only through the touchscreen. Or is it? Do let us know your thoughts.

Charging Fit is easy.

Charging is via a magnetically-attached cradle, with a microUSB port. “We designed Huawei Fit to be the ideal fitness companion, with accurate tracking technology for fitness, heart and sleep”.
