The girl was ejected from the SUV and died of her injuries.
State police have identified the victim of a auto crash in Shelton earlier this week as a 6-year-old Ansonia girl.
A 6-year-old child was killed Tuesday afternoon in a two-car crash on Route 8 north near Exit 12, state police said.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
Marcano, a Prendergast student, and Rondon, a Mead student, were about to enter first grade when the new school year opened next week.
The girl was taken to the hospital, and was later pronounced dead.
“Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families, friends and loved ones of these two children”, said Superintendent of Schools Carol Merlone.
Grief counselors will be available today and next week at both the Prendergast and Mead schools.
The Ansonia Police Department and the Ansonia Fire Department are working with the school district and Mayor David Cassetti to offer support to the families.

A ziti dinner fund-raiser is being planned for next week at Ansonia High School, and school officials said more details will be released Monday.
