Senate control up for grabs as Democrats seek majority
She cast herself as an independent, bipartisan senator while portraying Hassan as a rubber stamp for Democrats and a hypocrite for taking credit for a state budget she initially vetoed as governor. Clinton invested heavily in the state as well, sending high-profile surrogate after surrogate to New Hampshire and campaigning here herself several times after losing the first-in-the-nation primary to U.S. Sen. Democrats are also a little anxious about being tied to an unpopular governor, but party leaders say they feel confident in their prospects. Bayh is a centrist Democrat with a long pedigree.

Democrats have asked USA courts in six battleground states to impose greater restrictions on partisan poll watchers, arguing that the Trump campaign, state Republican parties and Republican operative Roger Stone are encouraging supporters to intimidate minority voters. The Cook Political Report lists 16 seats held by Republicans as toss-ups, 11 as leaning Republican and 14 as likely Republican. “The result was remarkable stability in our races”, Sadie Weiner, the communications director for the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, said in an email.
“We’re going to earn the support of the people of New Hampshire and do the last-minute hand-shaking, earn people’s votes”, Ayotte said in an interview outside the dark, cold terminal. Democrats control just one chamber in a state Mitt Romney carried in 2012.
Republicans, meanwhile, are only seriously challenging for one Democratic-held seat – Nevada, where Democrat Catherine Cortez Masto is squaring off with Republican Rep. Joe Heck for the seat being vacated by retiring Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid.
Democrats think a growing Hispanic electorate will especially help them in Colorado and Nevada. Schumer long ago wrapped up the votes to take over for Reid when the Nevada Democrat announced he was stepping aside early previous year. The state voted for Bill Clinton twice in the 1990s, and Hillary Clinton drew large crowds in 2014 when she campaigned for Alison Lundergan Grimes’ unsuccessful U.S. Senate campaign. Now, Trump is running slightly ahead of Burr.
Clinton is favored in the Keystone State, but the margin may decide whether she takes Democratic nominee Katie McGinty with her. Toomey’s pulled out all the final stops at the end, and his closing ad even quoted President Obama praising him for his work on gun-control legislation.
With no early voting in the state, the parties’ last-minute efforts to energize voters could prove to be the deciding factor. A Trump victory, along with a Republican Congress, could mean a swift end for Democratic President Barack Obama’s health reforms. Democrats were once optimistic, but admit it’s much harder now in West Virginia. Whereas the House will likely keep its Republican majority, that lead is predicted to shrink.
Trump also has a narrow lead in the North Carolina polls, and the Tar Heel state looks once again to be a tight contest.
Unlike at the Senate level, Democrats had been tying House Republicans to Trump for some time. Similarly, Democrats think backlash from the Flint water crisis has hurt MI legislators and believe they could make gains there as well.
Activists for Americans for Prosperity, the grassroots organizing arm of the Koch brothers network (as well as the well-staffed teams of those Republican Senate candidates) have been trying for months to convince conservative voters to get to the polls even if they can’t stand Trump.

If Hillary Clinton beats Donald Trump to become president, Democrats only need to knock off four Republicans to recapture the upper body.
