Clinton Might Win Popular Vote, But Trump Is Still President-Elect

Faithless electors are barred in only 29 states from ignoring the will of the voters, though the penalties are light. We owe Trump an open mind and the chance to lead.

A supporter urges Hillary Clinton to sue the United States over the outcome of the election.

The former first lady, USA senator and secretary of state said the election results showed the nation was deeply divided, but the voters had spoken.

“I think, interest in President-elect Trump’s wanting to work with my team around numerous issues that this great country faces”, Obama told reporters after the meeting.

Donald Trump’s stunning presidential victory became evident around midnight Tuesday for the Hillary Clinton supporters assembled at the Jacob Javits Center in Manhattan. “This loss hurts but please never stop believing that fighting for whats right is worth it”.

The meeting was the first such event held between Obama and Trump since the former real estate billionaire was elected president on Wednesday. So, when American citizens cast their ballots, they aren’t directly voting for president – they’re voting for electors.

Trump also broke from tradition as a candidate, refusing to allow a pool of campaign reporters, photographers or cameras to fly on his plane as he traveled to events. Vice President-elect Mike Pence was also to attend.

Earlier Clinton and Obama had called Trump to congratulate him, with Obama promising to meet with him Thursday.

Every president in recent memory has traveled with a pool of journalists when they leave the White House grounds. “We talked about domestic policy”, Obama said.

Obama promised a smooth change of leadership.

The Democratic US leader told the Republican president-elect his administration would “do everything we can to help you succeed, because if you succeed, then the country succeeds”. “We should have a revolution in this country!”

“Let us not grow wary, let us not lose heart for there are more seasons to come and there is more work to do”, she said. “In fact, we go to great lengths to insulate our justice system from partisan politics”.

“This is not the outcome we wanted or we worked so hard for”.

Trump said after his victory that he would work to heal the divisions set off by the bitter campaign.
