NFL ratings soar on 1st Sunday after voting

Seattle took a small measure of revenge for the Super Bowl loss to New England two seasons back by making a strong goal-line stand to hang on for a 31-24 road victory against the Patriots on Sunday. “I think it was”, Chancellor said. “You can see on nearly every play, it’s like Rodgers is trying to blame people”, Vaccaro said. When things went bad, it was like the world was against him. “If you get it, great, but you can’t count on that”. On first-and-10, from the Patriots’ 18, Russell Wilson escaped the pocket as the Patriots’ pass rush couldn’t get to him against a notably futile Seahawks offensive line. “It’s one of the great challenges that a team and a defense gets. And our guys just came through and hung in there and just fought for every inch and let us walk away with the win”.

For no apparent reason, Pittsburgh coach Mike Tomlin called for a 2-point conversion attempt that failed after the game’s first touchdown.

We’ll see what happens next week, when the Sunday night game is Redskins-Packers and Cowboys-Ravens and Seahawks-Eagles are probably the two best games during the day. Baldwin created headaches for defensive backs, especially near the end zone, where he caught three touchdowns for the first time since Week 14 of last season. You get into a close game like that and there’s a lot of things that could’ve made a difference one way or the other.

The New England Patriots knew that in order to beat the Seattle Seahawks, they’d have to take care of the ball and be aggressive with coverage on defense.

But the most important change was a rushing attack that entered the week 30th in the National Football League, averaging just 75 yards per game.

While Prosise didn’t run wild at Gillette Stadium, his 66 yards over 17 carries was a big plus for quarterback Russell Wilson, with the “threat” of running the football opening up some big passing areas for Wilson (25-37, 348 yds, 3TDs).

In his last game, Tom Brady threw for 315 yards and four scores, recording a 137.0 rating in the win, and posting a passer rating of at least 120 for a career-high fourth consecutive game. Rookie running back C.J. Prosise led the Seahawks with seven receptions and 87 yards, with his biggest play coming when he burned Collins’ replacement, sixth-round pick Elandon Roberts, for a 38-yard completion in the fourth quarter.

It was a fierce, sometimes viciously physical game.

Or any of Baldwin’s three TD receptions.

Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger threw for 408 yards and three touchdowns, including a trick play that had given the hosts the lead with 42 seconds left. But after Brady scrambled right he heaved one downfield into double coverage that was intercepted by DeShawn Snead. That gave New England an astounding 252 passes without an interception, breaking the mark set by the 2008 Washington Redskins. New England as a team only has eight more than those two.

And yet, what could have been an expected setback instead became one of Seattle’s most impressive regular season wins under coach Pete Carroll.

Seattle sleep-walked through the first half last season before Wilson came alive.
