Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s campaign has faced criticism for neglecting campaigning in states such as Wisconsin and MI – states where polls showed Clinton ahead by comfortable margins in the weeks leading up to the election, but where Trump ultimately prevailed after holding numerous rallies.
As the petition explains, despite Clinton winning the popular vote on Tuesday, Trump was ultimately able to secure more electoral votes, thus making him the victor and 45th president-elect. It’s the system set up by the founding fathers. In cities from NY to San Francisco people have been protesting the election results for more than five days, chanting “not my president” and blocking roads and highways.
It was the second time since 2000 where the popular vote victor lost the Electoral College.

Trump won fair and square under the system in place.
Trump further argued that while he trailed his opponent in the number of votes cast, he would have won the popular vote too, if the election were based on that and not the Electoral College.
The outcome left Clinton, Democrats and even many Trump supporters in shock. But numbers show that voter turnout wasn’t actually great in these states. It’s the swing states, the Red States, the Blue States, the Rust Belt states and so on.
Now Democrats are crying foul.

With a possible total of 538 electoral votes, the candidate with at least 270 electoral votes wins. And they are angry.
Some of the most intense protests have been staged in Portland, Oregon, where protesters have been marching on highways, stopping traffic and doing their best to make their point by disrupting daily life.
Apparently they want just enough of their fellow electors to write in Mitt Romney or John Kasich so they can block Trump.
First, a bit of background: When Americans went to their polling places on November 8, they weren’t actually voting directly for president. And the nation as a whole should do the same in giving the president-elect a chance to prove himself.

Democracy questions why such a system is acceptable in a country such as ours. The Electoral College consists of 538 electors who come from the 50 states and Washington, D.C. The number of electors each state may select is the same as the combined number of senate and congressional seats for that state.
