Donald Trump changes his mind about Electoral College after win

But under our current system that is irrelevant.

After all, many Americans, especially those whose candidate just won, are comfortable with the status quo and aren’t interested in making electoral college reform a major political issue. That is the way it has been throughout USA history.

One can appreciate the design of the Electoral College in the 1780s when travel was primitive and so were communications.

The easy answer: Yes, he did. The 11 jurisdictions that have signed on total 165 electoral votes, almost two-thirds of the necessary total. The bill Boxer is scheduled to propose is one that requires a Constitutional Amendment. Article Two of the Constitution is created to give smaller states, such as Wisconsin, more clout than they would otherwise possess under a popular vote system.

It may seem surprising that only 54% of the female electorate voted for Hillary Clinton, the first woman nominated for president by a major party. Of the three they lost, they won the popular vote twice.

A petition, already signed by several million citizens, calls on electors, when they meet in their respective states on December 19, to give their support to Clinton as the victor of the national popular vote. “The elector, in fact, is merely a symptom of what the American Bar Association’s Special Commission on Electoral Reform aptly described as our archaic, undemocratic, complex, ambiguous, indirect, and dangerous’ method of electing a president”. He pointed us to a statement made by Gingrich on Sunday’s “Face The Nation”. “But I would rather see it where you went with simple votes”.

But for now, the only competitions that matter are the ones in the swing states.

In her lifetime, California Sen. “You know, you get 100 million votes and somebody else gets 90 million votes and you win”, he said. “We don’t compete in California”. They would be the only states visited by the candidates.

“So it gets worse every year”, he said.

In other elections, it matters very much indeed.

“It will be an uphill battle because the smaller states like it the way it is”, the Democrat Senate said.

Historically, small states and voter disinterest have sunk efforts to reform the U.S. electoral system every time and they’ll probably do so again, writes Julian Zelizer. In the unlikely event that happens, the election would be sent to the GOP-controlled House of Representatives, which would decide between the top three Electoral College vote-getters. I personally don’t understand how the same country that elected Barack Obama with his forward-thinking ideals, lack of scandal and the revolutionary fact that he was from a race that was historically oppressed, could turn around eight years later. and elect a man who has been heard to be misogynistic, racist and have a running mate who believes in “curing” homosexuality through electroshock therapy.

Another friend of mine who was not shy at all to share his dislike of Trump throughout the election process said, “What’s done is done…the election is over, there is nothing to be gained by arguing about it now”. Indeed, the Associated Press credited Wisconsin’s 10 electoral votes with putting Trump over the 270-vote threshold he needed to claim the presidency.

Boxer’s proposal doesn’t stand much of a chance with Republicans in control of both houses of Congress and likely disinterested in a measure that highlights that Trump lost the popular vote. “Secretary Clinton WON THE POPULAR VOTE and should be President”. Some of the founding fathers wanted Congress and not the public to pick the president.

Several media outlets have recently reported that Newt Gingrich previously advocated for electing US presidents by popular vote instead of the Electoral College.

“Ever since 1988, 32 states have basically voted the same way”, he continues.

We rate the media reports True. Republicans were in a civil war over Donald Trump winning the nomination – which is why the left had secretly pushed for him to win the nomination.
