Oliseh Phone Call: Mikel Tried To Return Missed Calls

Watford striker Odion Ighalo has told Goal his spirit is not dampened by his omission from the Super Eagles’ list to face Tanzania next month as he plans to work harder.

“I have not spoken to Mikel up till now. But we will always be in contact so that we can help each other at all times”, responded Siasia.

Nigerian football team head coach Sunday Oliseh says the constant change of players in the last one year had made it hard for the country to have a formidable squad. I have contacted him on several occasions with no reply. “I sent text messages too but up till now that I speak with you he hasn’t called back or sent me text”, Keshi said at that time.

“There will be lots of games for everybody so we’re just going to move on along and try everybody out and try every player in each position and see how they can carry it out”.

“I called his Chelsea team-mate and compatriot [Victor] Moses and we met after the Community Shield”.

“When I heard that Mikel was injured I tried severally to get him on phone to ask after his health but surprisingly he did not pick the calls”.

Coach Sunday Oliseh omitted the 26-year-old from his 18-man foreign-based list for the crucial encounter.

“But after our training [on 19 August] I saw a missed call [from Mikel] on my phone so at the moment I really don’t know what the situation is now”.

Instead of representing his country in the AFCON qualifiers, Mikel instead chose to spend his summer holidays with his girlfriend, Olga Diyachenko in Dubai.
