Ireland stay top as Wales and Serbia draw their World Cup qualifier

With two points squandered at home against Georgia last month and Serbia, the Group D leaders, arguably the biggest threat to their hopes of qualifying for the World Cup finals, Wales need their best players for a game that they can not afford to lose.

Having previously seen Austria and Georgia fight back to claim a point apiece, Chris Coleman’s side thought they had secured victory in Saturday’s Group D encounter as they led with five minutes remaining.

“We are so disappointed at the moment. It’s going to be a fantastic test, challenge for us and we look forward to that”. “Very disappointing”, said Bale, who was two goals off Ian Rush’s national record.

“He can improve a lot and we hope so, because as a country we need that leader up front”, Ivanovic said.

You would think the joke couldn’t stretch much further but midfielders Joe Ledley and Jonny Williams say they will carry on carrying on.

“The games against Ireland will be important but we feel we can win anywhere, as long as we do our jobs and play the way we are supposed to”.

DUSAN Tadic has been backed to upstage former Saint Gareth Bale again tonight as Serbia take on Wales in a World Cup qualifier.

Aleksandar Mitrovic’s header into the far post past the Welsh goalkeeper gave Serbia a late point. But I won’t be saying to the players we’ve got to make up for it; it’s gone.

“We know the Wales fans will be up for the game, and we want to put in a performance that does that justice”.

Chelsea’s Serbian defender Branislav Ivanovic agreed with Williams that there is still all to play for, but believes the Republic of Ireland are now in the driving seat as the sides plot a route to Russian Federation.

“We’ve more than made up for that since and we’ve moved on”.

Gareth Bale’s early goal against Belgium in June 2015 g ave Wales something to hold onto in the face of mounting second-half pressure from the Red Devils.

Now, if a team has a striker who is very strong in the air then you know their game will be based on hammering crosses into the box and hoping he gets his head on at least one.

They are the next opponents for Martin O’Neill’s side with a fixture at the Aviva Stadium on March 24th 2017.

However, as one of Wales’ stand-out players in the Euros, he needs to perform more consistently if they are to succeed in this qualifying campaign.
