Matthews, Michael could help Packers on Sunday night

Washington will look to avenge the playoff loss they suffered last season at the hands of the Packers.

The Packers have a Super Bowl MVP quarterback, but that’s hardly enough reason to pick them over the Redskins. “But regardless of who we play Sunday night it’s going to be a big game for the fans and for us”. In that game, the Packers went with veteran James Starks, who carried seven times for 33 yards in his first game following October 16 knee surgery for a torn meniscus. All of those numbers would lead Packers running backs.

Michael ran for 469 yards and six touchdowns on 117 attempts in nine games for Seattle this season, including seven starts.

It’s unclear how much Michael, who was expected to arrive in Green Bay late Wednesday, will be able to contribute in Sunday night’s game at Washington.

Lacy indicated on his blog Wednesday that he is making progress in his recovery from an ankle injury, and remains the team’s leading rusher with 360 yards on the season.

Not that Rodgers cares at this point, but the whole you’re not here/you don’t play so you don’t know defense is wearing pretty thin.

“The thing that has always impressed me from afar – and then I think it’s like anything when you get to see a quarterback play live – is the command of the offense”, McCarthy said. He said there would be some carryover from Seattle’s offense to Green Bay’s, but as was the case with Davis, it would take some time for him to get comfortable with everything the Packers are doing. We’ve tried to manage. He gained 192 yards on 39 carries (4.9 average). Jackson, however, did not practice that day and eventually sat out the game against the Vikings with his balky shoulder. Montgomery was effective running out of the spread, but between his wide receiver’s build and sickle-cell trait symptoms, he isn’t suited for a heavy workload, especially running between the tackles. “You can say all the right things and be as prepared as possible, but it comes down to executing when you get out there”.

As for other media suggestions that there’s a rift between Rodgers and McCarthy, or some type of dissension stemming from press conference comments, Rodgers didn’t back down. “There’s nothing like live action”. “It’s really about the guys coming into the opportunity”. “He’ll be better this week”.
