A look back at the life of Florence Henderson, ‘America’s mom’

Florence Henderson, a.k.a. Carol Brady from The Brady Bunch, passed away on November 24, 2016 at the age of 82.

Florence Henderson means a lot, to a lot of people.

According to Williams, Henderson also enjoyed filming episodes in Hawaii, and said those were perhaps her favorite.

She was known as Carol Brady by generations of fans, the always cheerful, dutiful mom to the six Brady kids on the popular TV show “The Brady Bunch” from 1969 to 1974. Henderson is survived by her four children, which include two sons and two daughters, in addition to five grandchildren.

Henderson passed away surrounded by family and friends, her manager said late Thursday.

The Brady Bunch, which initially ran until 1974, brought her and her co-stars worldwide fame. I feel so fortunate that I got to spend that time with her. “I killed my husband”, she announced.

Henderson was a contestant on Dancing in the Stars in 2010 and appeared on the show days before her death in support of McCormick, a contestant in the most recent series.

She was back 40 years later as a co-host of Later Today. She was everybody’s mom, everybody’s friend. She will be missed.

After high school she moved to NY, where she enrolled in a two-year program at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, her studies financed by a theatrical couple who had been impressed by her singing when they saw her perform in high school. She was a part of one of the earliest advertising campaigns led by Oldsmobile cars in 1958.

Of her many credits, Henderson was the first woman to host “The Tonight Show” for the vacationing Johnny Carson.

A mother on screen and even off to cast members like Barry Williams. Her father was a sharecropper, and the family struggled financially.

The show took on new life in syndication.

Maureen also addressed her past battle with cocaine addiction and depression as part of her DWTS Most Memorable Year dance, and in a pre-taped segment, Flo was on hand to offer some insight into how McCormick struggled with the transition from child star to adulthood. After “The Brady Bunch” ended, Lookinland battled alcoholism and found a fulfilling role on the other side of the camera.

Henderson became Carol Brady in 1969. She served as grand marshal for this year’s pre-race parade, riding in a parade vehicle at the front of the 33 competing drivers. Even in grief and medical complications and the normal turbulence of a life well-lived, Henderson never took anything for granted.
