Nokia is making a comeback! New Android smartphone to launch next year
HMD has developed a strategic partnership model that will see it working with some of the world’s leading technology companies including Nokia, FIH Mobile Limited (FIH) and Google.

“HMD can begin operations as the new home of Nokia phones, under an exclusive global brand license for the next ten years”, excluding Japan, Nokia said in a statement.
It will not be cake walk for Nokia to get strong foothold in crowded Android smartphones market which is now dominated by Chinese phones for nearly all the segments.
Meanwhile, shipments of Nokia phones were reportedly down by 40 percent in 2015, and HMD is expected to reverse the decline as they try to break back into the market, where competition is stiff among smartphone manufacturers. The brand has signed a 10-year deal with HMD, meaning there won’t be another teary-eyed farewell to Nokia anytime soon.
Nokia has been one of the most iconic and recognisable phone brands globally for decades and HMD is excited to re-introduce this much-loved, well-known and trusted brand, he added.
Much like BlackBerry years later, Nokia became content with its lead and failed to make the transition to smartphones.
They pointed out that brand reputation alone can not help Nokia regain lost glory or market share as China represents the world’s most competitive smartphone market. Even though sales of such phones are rapidly decreasing, there are still hundreds of millions of such devices sold every year.
Nokia announces a return to the smartphone market for 2017, will be powered by Android. However, they will but naturally not be Nokia phones of the old and will have a whole lot of changes to them. One of them will be called as Nokia D1C smartphone that will come two variants that are 5-inch and 5.5-inch display variants.
HMD Global is run by Chief executive Arto Nummela. Why Reuters chose to edit the article afterward and we guess we will never know, but at least we have some insight that Google could be working very closely with Nokia in order to pave its way back into the smartphone market once more.
HMD President Florian Seiche previously worked at Siemens (SIEGn.DE), Orange, HTC and Nokia.
