Blitzboks hammer NZ Sevens in Dubai Cup quarter final

Senatla won the World Player award after scoring 66 tries and starring at the Rio Olympics, before a wrist injury picked up in the quarter-final against Australia ruled him out of the rest of the tournament.

The Blitzboks dominated possession and found it straightforward to create space for the likes of impressive speedsters Seabelo Senatla and Werner Kok.

“We just needed to stick to our game plan and structure and that’s exactly what the guys did”, Blitzboks skipper Philip Snyman said.

“For us, at least we played well but unfortunately lost the games on the edge”, said Simiyu adding that he would polish on the technical side of the game so that they can secure their games early.

The golden girls final game was against the U.S. who had split their first two game of the day and would need a win to secure a quarter-final berth of their own.

Earlier, England sealed a dramatic 19-17 victory over Fiji, courtesy of Alice Richardson’s late conversion.

Fiji are in Pool B with France, Kenya and Japan while England have been drawn alongside New Zealand, Argentina and Canada in Pool C.

South Africa emerged winners of the Dubai Sevens – HSBC World Series after beating last season’s series champions and Olympic gold medalists, Fiji, 26-14 on Saturday.

The Boks, who averaged 31.3 points per match over the course of the tournament, have finished second on the series for the past four seasons.

The second half saw both sides look to gain control of the match as they searched for an advantage. England were on a rampage and scored two quick converted tries to stretch their lead to 21-0 with two minutes remaining in the half.

New Zealand 7s interim coach, Tomasi Cama Junior has promised they will be a better team in Cape Town after his “under-prepared” team was thrashed 40-0 in the Dubai Sevens quarterfinals by eventual champions South Africa.

He said: “Against Fiji, there are always going to be only one or two tries in it”. Kyle Brown, Chris Dry, Justin Geduld and Werner Kok also scored during the emphatic victory.
