Unity event, protests expected at white nationalist’s visit

Spencer says, “Alt-right pre-existed Trump but we have gone from zero to 60 with the Trump movement and I wanted to celebrate that miracle”.

During a question-and-answer session that lasted more than an hour, one African-American student asked Spencer how he planned to get rid of him.

And on the heels of tech giants like YouTube, Facebook and Twitter vowing to censor and limit hateful extremist posts, TV One sees its biggest star Roland Martin head back to his old school in the conservative state to attend the anti-alt-right event. Dialogues between both opposing groups took place throughout the crowds of people.

Spencer, president of the National Policy Institute, has said the opposition around his speech is a testament to the reach of the so-called alt-right movement, a loose grouping characterized by a rejection of mainstream politics that includes neo-Nazis, white supremacists and anti-Semites.

“We want to raise the consciousness among Europeans in the United States”.

But there will reportedly be a counter-protest from Spencer supporters on campus.

“The argument is he has the right to speak on campus and our right is to protest peacefully and that’s what it looks like most people are here to do”, said A&M senior Eder Colecio of Fort Worth.

Mostly, though, he focused on his message, which was that white people were responsible for building America and should reclaim it as their own. Join us in a conversation about world events, the newsgathering process or whatever aspect of the news universe you find interesting or important.

Hundreds of demonstrators clashed with riot police at a protest against a white nationalist leader’s speech at a leading U.S. university. “It was the anti-fascist fighters”, he explained to the Battalion.

“Hail Trump, hail our people, hail victory!”. Organized by worldwide affairs graduate student Nick Meindl, this event was created to deescalate the heated rhetoric and hostility of the night.

Geophysics junior Todd Beman said while he doesn’t support Spencer’s rhetoric he felt that the protests were extreme.

Young was critical of white nationalism – a creed that critics say veers into white supremacy and anti-Semitism – while saying that differences strengthen a community. “Would you sit down and study Torah with me and learn love?” “You are just being hypocritical”.

As the night went on, the group was violently expelled by police clad in riot gear, bearing truncheons.

“The culture of the university is not what I expected when I first came here”. Local police removed several protesters before Spencer was allowed to continue.

After the event ended, campus police tweeted that two non-student arrests had been made. “It looks so bad, and what they’re doing is divisive – it really, really sucks to see”.
